Despite sustained nursing shortages across the country, many internationally educated nurses (IENs) face persistent barriers to securing their first commensurate position after licensure. This project targets the final step in attaining employment by expanding a successful Ontario initiative into a cross-provincial strategy in three additional provinces: British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Through a cross-provincial strategy, we are accelerating the integration of newly licensed IENs into Canada’s healthcare system by aligning real-time labour market data with the skills and preferences of newcomer nurses. The study engages IENs and healthcare leaders through webinars, tools and resources, and an online application of leading practices.
This project will produce community immigration profiles, job posting analyses, an employment manual, and a cross-provincial rapid integration model. The primary outcome is to increase IEN entry into the labour market, accelerate employment uptake, and improve integration and retention.
